The season of LENT invited us to slow down and look around, look up, and look within. It is tempting and perhaps easier to keep our feet on the accelerator and focus on other things: getting to spring planting, packing for spring break, making plans for the end of school and summer vacation. But what might we be able to see if we slow down? If we pull off the freeway and park for a bit? If we give ourselves a chance to breathe in and take in the sights and the signs of the season?
With Ash Wednesday we entered a time to slow and to return our eyes to God. The One who created us and set the stars in their places has so much to tell us and so much to show us. The One who comes among us in Jesus has so much love and grace to share with us. The One who brings order from chaos and new life out of death wants to do a new things in us and through us. But if I try to plow through this time at highway speed, I’ll miss most of it so I’m going to work on slowing down and, if you’re going fast too, I invite you to slow down with me. ~ Pastor Jennifer
